Homemade Vanilla Extract: A Simple Tradition Worth the Wait

There’s something special about slowing down and making simple things from scratch. One of my favorite projects lately has been homemade vanilla extract; a process that takes patience, but feels so rewarding.

Every week I give my jar a gentle shake and watch the vanilla slowly infuse into the liquid. The smell gets richer over time, and it’s a reminder that good things really do take time.

I love knowing exactly what’s going into it:

🤎 Vanilla beans
🤎 Simple ingredients
🤎 No unnecessary additives

Homemade vanilla extract also makes beautiful gifts for the holidays, birthdays, or anyone who loves baking and cozy kitchen traditions.

For me, natural living isn’t about perfection. It’s about enjoying simple moments, learning new skills, and creating things with intention.

Simple Homemade Vanilla Extract Recipe

What you’ll need:

🤎 1 ounce Madagascar vanilla beans
🤎 8 ounces vodka
🤎 A glass jar with a lid

Directions:
Slice the vanilla beans lengthwise and place them into the jar. Pour the vodka over the beans until fully covered, seal tightly, and give it a shake.

Store in a cool, dark place and shake once a week. For the best flavor, allow it to infuse for at least 8–12 weeks.

The longer it sits, the richer and deeper the vanilla becomes
